Overview The mission of Employee and Family Assistance Program Services is to enhance hope and health through providing structured, confidential and neutral services to employees and organisational leaders that support the mission of Edmonton Catholic Schools, namely, "to provide a Catholic education which inspires and prepares students to learn, to work, to live fully and to serve God in one another." Edmonton Catholic Schools (ECS) recognises that, from time to time, everyone experiences personal difficulties which can be emotionally, physically and mentally disruptive to an otherwise well-balanced and fulfilling life. Support to individuals in solving personal, family or work-related issues that may affect their job performance, and/or impact their health, benefits everyone. In recognition of this and as a means of minimising the potential adverse effect on job performance and on personal and organisational health, ECS established an Employee and Family Assistance Program (EFAP) in 1992. ECS encourages the use of the EFAP resources and services. Processes have been established to enable staff members to identify problems and seek EFAP assistance on their own; to be assisted in accessing EFAP resources by principals, supervisors, Human Resource Services staff, peers or other individuals; or, where necessary and appropriate, to be formally referred by Supervisors. EFAP is directed to the creation of an organisational culture that promotes hope, health, wholeness and holiness in ECS employees. At the organisational level, this includes promotion of employee well-being and organizational effectiveness, Administrator/Supervisor/Association Representative consultation and training; work group counselling; organisation consultation; program promotion and education; promotion of individual and workplace health and well-being. EFAP is a worksite-focused program to assist in the identification and resolution of individual employee concerns, which affect, or may affect, performance. Such employee concerns typically include, but are not limited to: Personal matters - health, relationship, family, financial, emotional, legal, anxiety, alcohol, drugs and other related issues. It includes a mechanism for providing counselling and other forms of assistance, advice and information to employees on a systematic and uniform basis, and to recognised standards. EFAPs are unique within the occupational health field in addressing the twin focus of employee well-being and organisational performance. The EFAP therefore has the opportunity to reach people who would not otherwise have access to the support from which they may benefit.
